A good time was had by all at the wonderful Sycamore Street Commons work/playday on June 25. With a crew of about 20 residents of the housing complex and 10 other Transition SC volunteers, we installed about 5 wood framed raised beds, filled them with good soil, and planted vegetable starts.
The residents were really pleased to receive the help and impetus to get food growing in their complex. The late afternoon work session ended with generous servings of food prepared by women of the complex and served in the community room. Many props to a very hard-working Batya Kagan, the organizer, who put two thumbs up, showing that her vision came true.

I want to personally thank you for your kind donations to help Sycamore Commons get a community garden in!! It is very exciting that it happened and now there are plants growing in five garden beds throughout the complex. All ages of people benefitted from that day... the young kids loved digging up plants to make space for the boxes, the guys and some of the women loved putting their construction skills into building the garden boxes and the older women went to town like they were on a shopping spree when it came to planting. It was a great day and it was a great community building event.
Thank you to everyone who helped. Your gifts of your time, your caring, the plant starts, tools you brought along and just helping me make this promise come true really brightened up so many people's day. And it is a step towards resilience!
