Transition Santa Cruz and the Pachamama Alliance invite you to attend the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium. Experience the possibility of a hopeful new perspective on our biggest challenges and opportunities today:

  • The state of our industrial world and the thinking that got us where we are today
  • A new dream—new ideas about what really matters— leading to deep connection and surprising solutions
  • How you can be part of what’s emerging—because you already are!

For those who have attended a Symposium before, be prepared for some changes, as this event marks the release of a new presentation with a stronger emphasis on the international nature of the movement.

To register, visit the Awakening the Dreamer website, email Alain, or call Batya at 419-6574.

The theme of this month's Gathering is "How the Potato People Can Save Us!"

In this family-friendly evening, Michael Levy will guide us through a hands-on activity designed to unlock creativity, a crucial task for Transition. Don't be scared, adults, this will be fun for you too, and not really all that messy. In the guise of an art project, we will be looking at how we envision a resilient, post-fossil-fuel dependent Santa Cruz to function.

If you are coming with children, the hands-on activity will happen between 7:30 and 8:30.

You will also hear reports from working groups and find out how you can plug in. And, plenty of time to connect and chat. Come, and enjoy!

TSC reaches out to City government

City logoTransition Santa Cruz is ramping up its outreach efforts to Santa Cruz City officials. This is timely, as the General Plan revision heads into its home stretch, and the relatively well-funded Redevelopment Agency prepares its 5-year plan. Two reports follow:

This month we are trying a new location for our monthly gathering. Also, it will be a potluck! Bring a little snack item to share.

The centerpiece of the evening will be a World Cafe-style discussion on the possibilities for a different kind of economy. We will ask questions like, "Is it possible for us to have a local economy not based on growth?"

You will also hear reports from working groups and find out how you can plug in. And, plenty of time to connect and chat. Come, and enjoy!

No Impact Man

Wednesday, December 9
6:40 Reception, 7:15 Film, 8:45 Discussion
Del Mar Theater, downtown Santa Cruz
$5 advance, $7 at the door

Here's a fun one! Take your sweetie out to movie night at the Del Mar and laugh about your relationship to low-impact living...and to each other.

No Impact Man is the story of a guilty New York liberal who decides to practice what he preaches for ONE YEAR (turns off the electricity, stops making garbage, gives up TV, taxis and take out & becomes a walking, bicycling, composting, tree hugging, polar bear saving, local food-eating citizen), all while taking his baby daughter & caffeine loving, retail-obsessed, television-addicted wife along with him.

In addition to the fun of seeing the film, the evening will feature a discussion led by local ocean scientist Wallace J. Nichols. Transition Santa Cruz members will also be there, tabling in the lobby before the film. You can get tickets in advance at this link.

People Power will be providing valet bike parking to make it easy to get there with little or no impact.

Reskilling Expo a huge success!

Thanks to the generous efforts of organizer Bonnie Linden, close to 30 presenters, and a crew of enthusiastic volunteers, the Reskilling Expo was an inspiring success on October 17. The Fellowship Hall and courtyard at the Methodist Church resembled a beehive of intense learning activity for 6 hours of workshops on topics from jam-making to the transformation of the corporate system.

The Rolling Cultivators, a band that included atmospheric scientist and climate change presenter Peter Weiss, UCSC Farm manager Jim Leap, and CASFS staffer Jan Perez, entertained at lunch hour.

Check out these photos, and see you at the next one!
